Flu is a common viral infection that’s easily spread to other people through coughs and sneezes. Flu symptoms include a fever, headache, sore throat and an aching body. Viruses that cause flu are the most common during the winter months. Flu strains can change from year to year, which means last year’s vaccination may not protect you from this season’s flu strains. Over time, protection from the flu vaccination also decreases, which is another reason to keep up to date with your flu vaccinations.
The best way to help protect yourself and others from catching and spreading the flu, is to get the flu vaccination every year. Our Winter Flu Vaccination Service is a simple and convenient way to help protect against the flu. The flu vaccine administered by injection is available for those aged 18 and over. Children aged two to 17 years can get the nasal flu vaccine. Not only will getting the flu vaccine help protect your child against flu, but it will also help reduce the spread of flu to others.
The Winter Flu Vaccine is free to some patients, and is €30 for private patients.
Please see our Winter Flu Vaccination Service online application form for more details.
It is a nose swab antigen test to check for a current COVID-19 (coronavirus) infection. The pharmacist will take a swab from each nostril. If your test is negative, you will be emailed an EU Digital Covid Certificate in less than an hour which you can upload to your phone (Covid Tracker App or similar).
Antigen tests are not as accurate as a PCR test and are designed to detect the virus at levels that are more likely to mean you’re infectious and could spread the infection to others.
The test is suitable for all adults, and children 8 years and older.

COVID-19 is an illness that can affect your lungs and airways, and sometimes other parts of your body. It’s caused by a virus called coronavirus. COVID-19 is highly infectious. It spreads through the air through droplets produced when people cough or sneeze, or when they touch surfaces where the droplets have landed and then touch their eyes, nose or mouth. COVID-19 can cause serious illness, hospitalisation and even death.
Vaccines are the most effective way to prevent infectious diseases. They prepare your immune system (your body’s natural defences) to recognise and defend itself against a specific virus.

High blood pressure (also known as hypertension) is one of the main causes of heart attacks and strokes, it can also damage the eyes and kidneys. In most cases, hypertension is what is known as a “silent disease” i.e. it will produce no symptoms even while damaging the body. This is why it is important to have your blood pressure checked periodically, even if you feel fine.
Checking your blood pressure is a quick and painless procedure. A cuff is wrapped around the upper arm and this cuff is then inflated and slowly deflated, allowing your blood pressure to be read. You will also receive advice on how you may help to keep your blood pressure within normal limits.
